SIAP SIAGA Supported HKB 2022

As one of BNPB’s key partners, the SIAP SIAGA Program proudly supported the celebration of the 2022 National Disaster Preparedness Day (HKB) held at the Ledok Sari Balerante Park, Klaten, Central Java. The commemoration of 2022 Disaster Preparedness Day upholds the theme of Disaster Resilient Family is the Nation’s Pillar to Face Disasters.

The event was also attended by Kirsten Bishop, the Minister Counselor of the Australian Embassy in Jakarta. During the event, SIAP SIAGA and BNPB jointly handed over the regional report of Resilience is Local to the key government officials. HKB is an effort to develop the nation’s resiliency and to build a disaster awareness character as well as culture from an early age that the people must cultivate. Furthermore, the event also features representatives of communities living in the volcanic mountains from various regions in Indonesia, to share their stories in building disaster preparedness and resilience in their areas.

At the event, Minister Counselor of the Australian Embassy, Kirsten Bishop, said it was very pleasant to be present in Balerante to commemorate the HKB 2022. The Australian government is proud to support the Government of Indonesia, especially the BNPB, in disaster risk reduction efforts, both at the national and at the regions, and has been building strong partnership for disaster management.

She added that the partnership program between Australia and Indonesia aims to support Indonesia’s efforts to accelerate the resilience of the community in the face of disasters. The Australian government also expressed a high appreciation to the BNPB, for its continuous efforts in disaster risk management and climate change to improve community resilience in disaster risk management.

As a stakeholder at the central level, the BNPB conducts disaster mitigation steps, starting from prevention to emergency response and post-disaster stages. The HKB is also an effort to develop a nation based on disaster risk reduction, Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Lieutenant General TNI Suharyanto stated during the HKB 2022 event on Tuesday.

He further explained that building a resilient nation is not impossible, especially when there is strong collective support and commitment. Moreover, building resilience through preparedness and the development of a disaster awareness culture cannot be accomplished by the government alone.

“It necessitates pentahelix collaboration from various parties, specifically the central government, regional governments, business institutions, academicians, and the community,” he stressed.

This strength can serve as a major force to develop a civilization based on disaster risk reduction, Suharyanto remarked.

The event was marked by the sounding of the siren at 10 a.m. local time for one minute as a symbol of the start of disaster preparedness steps. Additionally, self-evacuation training was undertaken in three regions of  Tlogolele Village, Boyolali, Central Java; Klakah Village, Boyolali; Kemiren Village, Magelang, Central Java; Balerante Village, Klaten, Central Java.

The training was also conducted in Glagaharjo Village, Sleman, Yogyakarta; BNPB’s Education and Training Center in Sentul, West Java; and BNPB Center in Jakarta.
